Welcome to the website of Adri and Lenie Tijman. Actually, it is not just a website but rather a HOME PAGE. This time, take "home page" quite literal, because we have put pictures in the text of our home.
We don't know what you think of the house we live in, but I can tell you we love it! We live outside the tiny village of Hoenderloo in the "Veluwe" nature area, in the midst of fast tracts of woods, relieved by heath and occasionally drifting sands. Our neighbours are badgers, deer and wild boars. Although our plot is fenced, the neighbours incidentally visit us and plow the lawn. During the night you can hear the owls in the elms. Across the provincial road that runs in front of our house, you find one of the largest nature areas in our country. That part is fenced to keep the animals off the road, but the forestry made a private entrance exclusively for us! The village of Hoenderloo was founded two hundred years ago as a colony in a very retarded and poor area, lying in the midst of the - at that time - excisting desert. Temperatures in those times could go up to 50 degrees celcius in summer! Never thought that could have happened in The Netherlands, did you? The village has 1.400 residents but in summer it goes up to 15.000 for Hoenderloo is VERY popular for spending holidays, especially for bykers and walkers.
We have lived in the western part of our country for more than thirty years because Adri earned his livelihood as an investment banker for many years, and had to travel a lot. Schiphol airport in the vicinity was not bad and moreover the office was in the Dutch financial centre of Amsterdam. He has been a director equity sales foreign institutional clients for many years, and worked among others for ABN-AMRO Bank and ING-Bank, both of them leading financial institutions - in those times! - in Europe.
After a demanding job Adri went into early retirement in January 2004 at the age of fiftyseven years. He really liked his job. Actually, he really liked everything he has done. But what he is doing now he likes even more! Adri and Lenie travel a lot, and have a certain preference for exotic areas. Not many westerners visited countries like Iraq, Iran or Lybia, but we did! Mission and evangelization has gripped Adri's heart and he spent a lot of time in it. Furthermore he writes books. The third book has just been published in January 2008, titled "Ik zal je Vader zijn". Lenie is a member of some clubs and unions, and is the managing director of our guest house.
Our house is fairly big, at least compared to the average house; it is rather a country estate. The plot is over one hectare (almost three acres), and the content of the house is around 1200m3 or 325m2 / 3.000 feet2. You now start to become curious about it? Have a look at the pictures, or come by and visit us. Please call or mail in advance.
